Pilot's Seat - 6/20/00

I liked the hard "cushion" when I was doing acrobatics, but it left a little to be desired for those long trips.  Call me crazy but I like to be able to feel my legs on landing after a couple of hours.

In addition to his painting skills my son, Kade, is great at custom automotive upholstery so I put him and his sewing machine to work.  I didn't want much, especially behind me, because I wanted to stretch my legs as far out as possible.

We started with a bit of foam

Electric Kitchen Knife and a Little Spray Glue

Cut a Little Material Into a Pattern

Sew It Together... and Presto!

And Boy!... Does that feel good after a couple of hours!

Passenger's Seat

The pilot's seat worked out so well, we decided to make a passenger seat too.  So, here's the same sequence of events with a slightly different shape.

Cut to Shape and Mark Off a Pattern

Sew Some Material Into Pleats

Stuff the Foam and Staple the Material to Some Plywood

Installation of the Passenger's Seat
